Ebola Scare Hits Bayelsa: Police Flee As Monkey & Owner Visit Station

9 Sept 2014

The fear of Ebola is the beginning of wisdom played out yesterday as a monkey and its owner stormed the "A" division of Bayelsa State Police Command and caused pandemonium. There was confusion as policemen scampered for safety.

This is even as an 18-month-old baby was quarantined in Rivers State.
Monkeys have been identified as one of the animals to be avoided because they harbour the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Checks indicated that the owner of the monkey simply identified as Madam Ebitare, was arrested by a patrol team of the division at Swali market for still selling live and dried monkeys to Bayelsans.

She was said to have been taken to the station and upon arrival, policemen ran for their lives when she alighted from the patrol van with her monkey.
Eyewitnesses said the commotion she caused attracted the attention of some top officers at the station who immediately ordered the patrol team to take her and the monkey outside the premises.

The monkey heightened the confusion when it broke off from its owner, forcing many people who were watching the drama to flee for their safety.

The owner pursued the monkey and caught up with it. Her case was subsequently referred to the Ministry of Health.

A source at the station said the leadership of the division were not aware of her arrest, but on hearing about the incident, they have alerted relevant authorities on the situation.

"The incident shocked many. We have alerted the Ministry of Health on the continued disregard to the purchase of bush meat and eating of bats," he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson has assured Bayelsans that the state government will deal with any case of EVD. Dickson said isolation centres established by the state government are ready for any EVD case, urging the residents to remain vigilant and report any case of symptoms to the authorities.

He advised them against visiting traditional healers or prayer warriors over any case of EVD to avoid the spread.

Meanwhile, a baby had been quarantined at the Ebola Treatment Centre in Oduoha community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, disclosed this yesterday, while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt on the situation report of the virus.
Dr. Parker said the baby was among those who had primary contacts with the late Dr. Iyke Enemuo, the first Ebola victim in the state.

He also informed that the late Enemuo's sister, Chinyere, who tested positive to the virus, had been treated and discharged from the centre.
According to him, the baby, who was among the high risk contacts, became symptomatic at the weekend and was moved to the treatment centre, but yet to be tested.

"She has been effectively treated, cleared and discharged from our isolation treatment centre. She deserves to be celebrated as a success story. We have successfully treated and discharged an Ebola patient from our treatment centre. She was positive and she has been treated successfully and now negative. She has been re-united with her family members.

"A symptomatic contact was also discharged. He tested negative to the virus and was treated for something else and discharged. Right now, we have another admission, an 18 months old infant; but yet to be tested," he said.

Dr. Parker noted that about 479 contacts were now under watch, adding that 94 per cent of them were already being followed up, adding that the remaining figure would be covered before the end of yesterday. He cautioned members of the public against stigmatisation, saying that malaria kills more people than the Ebola virus.

He asked: "Why don't we stigmatise malaria patients? We have about 479 contacts now, about 94 per cent of them are being followed up by today, we will cover all of them. Our points of entry are now well covered. Activities there have improved and going on very well and our worker fully on ground", he said

US Gives $10M Aid To Nigeria To Fight Ebola Virus Disease

9 Sept 2014

The US is set to contribute a whopping $10million to Nigeria in order to help in eradicating the deadly Ebola virus ravaging the country and other West African countries.

This was made known by Washington Officials today.

The latest cash infusion would bring to more than $100 million the funds that the US government has spent trying to combat the outbreak, the US Agency for International Development said.

USAID said the funds will help finance a deployment by the African Union (AU) of doctors, nurses and other medical personnel to Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

"The US is committed to supporting the African Union's response to the urgent needs across West Africa as a result of this vicious disease," said Rajiv Shah, the head of USAID.

"We can and will stop this epidemic, but it will take a coordinated effort by the entire global community,"Shah said.

The funds provided by USAID and the State Department will be used to transport to the affected region a contingent of about 25 doctors and 45 nurses,as well as other medical staff tasked with running Ebola treatment units, where patients are kept in insolation while recovering from the illness.

Man Who Sent Robbers To Uncle Confesses

Man Who Sent Armed Robbers To Rob Uncle In Festac Confesses "He's One of
the Richest Men In Lagos & Stingy"

SARS officials in Ikeja Lagos have arrested a 25-year-old man identified as Emmanuel Ererie for hiring robbers to attack his Uncle, Prince Ororogu Peter Ererie in Festac.

The robbers were arrested during the operation but Emmanuel fled to Delta in order to evade arrest.
The suspect blamed his wealthy brother for his woes. He insisted that if his uncle had invested heavily on him, he would have turned out to be a better person.

Read his confession below:

"My Uncle is one the richest men in Lagos. He is into importation of furniture and has made a lot of money. As his brother's son, he is expected to extend his wealth to me but he only advised that I should go and learn how to become a mechanic. This is a dirty job. I had no choice but to go ahead since I am also allowed to sleep in his house. He is so stingy. He was only giving me monthly allowance which is not enough for me to buy a car or live a good life."

"I started by volunteering to help the maid clean the house. That was how I got access to my uncle's room key and moulded a duplicate. Since I was not the only one in the house, no one could blame me. Early last year, I stole several gold trinkets that I found in my uncle's room as well as foreign currencies. This nearly destroyed his marriage because my uncle accused his wife of theft.

"It was fun watching them fight. Days later when he travelled with his wife, I entered the room, took the car key of one of his latest cars and drove off. I just wanted to use it and cruise around town. Unfortunately, I had an accident and the car was destroyed beyond repair. The little money I got from the gold that I sold was used to repair the other vehicles involved in the accident.

"When my uncle heard of the accident, he asked the police to arrest me. I was arrested and sent to prison because of the car. They accused me of car theft. I pleaded for mercy but my uncle refused. He can buy 10 exotic cars and still remain rich,".

"I made friends in prison and most of them are robbery suspects. They taught me how to go about it. They also linked me up with Innocent Ibeh who left prison few weeks after I was jailed. After I regained my freedom in May 2014, I decided to teach my brother a lesson."

"Innocent summoned the others, while I made arrangement for arms. I took them to the house, pressed the bell while they were ushered in by the security man. I had to disappear so that I will not be linked to the robbery.

Later in the night, when I waited and none of them called me, I became suspicious. I called someone in the street and he told me that armed robbers visited but the police were able to stop them. As soon as I realized that they had been caught I ran to Delta.

Unfortunately they found me. I am terribly sorry but my uncle should realize that my blood is on his head. If he had trained me well like his children, I would be a better person. I just wanted them to steal his latest Mercedes 4matics, MM500 and few currencies that are always in a carton. He can never be poor, no matter the number of robbers that try to steal from him,".

The run-away members of the robbery gang, Victor Ezenwa, Joseph Ovonogbarho and Innocent Ibeh have been arrested.

Court Freezes Dangote’s Accounts In 20 Banks Over N5b Loan

4 Sept 2014

A Federal High Court sitting in
Lagos on Thursday ordered 20
commercial banks in Nigeria not to
honour any withdrawal request
from Alhaji Sani Dangote, younger
brother of billionaire business man,
Aliko Dangote and two of his
companies, Dansa Foods Limited
and Bulk Pack Services Limited.

The trial judge, Justice Okon Abang,
directed that the order is to be in force
until September 11, 2014 when all
applications filed in a suit brought by
Union Bank against Sani Dangote
would be heard.

The judge ordered the banks to file
affidavit to show cause on the details of
his accounts with them within five
days.

The banks are Access Bank, CITI Bank,
Diamond Bank, Ecobank, Enterprise
Bank, Fidelity Bank, First Bank, First
City Monument Bank (FCMB), Guaranty
Trust Bank (GTB), Heritage Bank,
Keystone Bank, Mainstreet Bank, Skye
Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Standard Chartered
Bank, Sterling Bank, United Bank for
Africa (UBA), Unity Bank, Wema Bank
and Zenith Bank.

Justice Abang, also ordered Union Bank
to file an undertaken to indemnify the
defendants in the event that the
freezing order ought not to have been
made.

Union Bank had sued Dangote and his
companies over alleged failure to
liquidate about N5 billion debt despite
repeated demands.

The bank, in two separate suits against
Dangote and his companies, had
sought an order of mareva injunction
restraining all commercial banks in
Nigeria from allowing withdrawal of
funds from their accounts pending the
determination of the suits.

When the matter came up for hearing
on Thursday, the motion could not be
heard as the defendants had filed an
objection challenging the jurisdiction of
the court to entertain the suit.

Out of all the banks, Diamond and
Zenith Banks appeared before the court on Thursday and explained that
Dangote was equally indebted to them.
Zenith Bank specifically said Dangote
was indebted to the bank to the tune of €7 million.

But while stating that he would
entertain all the applications filed in the matter on Spetember 11, Justice Abang said there was an urgent need to preserve the rest in view of the
allegation that the defendants were
about to move the funds abroad.

Union Bank, in the suits, alleged that in
a bid to evade payment of the loan,
Dangote has been making frantic
efforts to deplete the funds in the
accounts of his companies, and that
investigation had revealed that the
defendants had started diverting the
funds to Dubai in United Arab Emirates
(UAE), Canada and Switzerland.

According to two separate affidavits in
support of the suits deposed to by one
Olufunmilola Ayoola, an official of the
bank, it was alleged that the failure of
the defendants to liquidate the
monumental debt had negatively
affected the Nigerian economy, a
development which the bank claimed
necessitated the suits.

According to Ayoola, Union Bank was
having difficulty in extending credit
facilities to small scale businesses
which in turn would have helped in
boosting the nation's economy and
salvage the country from its present
malaise of corruption and under
development.

The bank stated that the funds which
the younger Dangote and his
companies failed to pay, were capable
of going a long way in impacting
positively on the nation's economy.

According to the processes, the bank in
September 2008, granted the
defendants N5.2 billion.

The breakdown of the loan was given
as follows; N500 million overdraft, N500 million advert loan, $2.5 million
equipment lease, $2.5 million sales and lease back and $30 million import
finance.

Ayoola recalled that when the
defendants could not fulfill the promise
of paying back the credit facilities from
time to time, the bank approved the
restructuring of the loan, but despite
that development, Dansa Foods was
indebted to the bank to the tune of
N4.003 billion as at November 29,
2012.

The loan was later reduced to N3.477
billion, but that despite repeated
demands, the defendants failed to
liquidate the debt.

Bulk Pack, on the other hand, is said to
be indebted to the bank to the tune of
N745.145 million.

They experience challenges in payment, cargo clearing and movement to locations. These are issues that this new service will tackle," Uzoma stated.

Speaking further, he said, "Diamond Bank would handle the payment for all importation transactions while DHL handles the logistics involved. My Wife is not Just a Woman, She is a Triple Woman - Ramsey Nouah

23 Aug 2014

You have been married for a while, how have you been able to hold your home together?

I must give it to my wife. She's a triple woman. She's not like an ordinary woman out there. When some people asked my wife how she copes with an actor husband, I told her to tell them that is why she is a triple woman. The first thing I told her was that, if every woman that says I cannot live with your husband, will actors get married? Will actors ever marry or have a family?
I told her it is because you are more than just a woman. Sometimes, she says Ramsey what kind of kissing is that? Na all my market you don go sell finish for camera. One woman came in from Benin to meet my wife that she was the once I married. This woman stayed in our house for three days until I get the police to come and drive her away. It was such a nasty experience that makes me laugh every time.

On his relationship with Genevieve Nnaji?

It is quite funny. I think everybody just tried to marry Genevieve and I before we actually got close. I didn't shoot much movies with Genevieve like I did with other actresses. I think I shot five movies with her. I have never had such feeling for her. We were just colleagues who wanted you people to feel the way you are feeling now. It tells you that we played our roles very well.

Why were you dropped as a Glo ambassador?

I don't know but I think they told us that they switched to musicians. I don't have to bother myself about why or who dropped me.
